Road infrastructure is a key economic factor in the national development strategy. The Greater Libreville road rehabilitation project is part of the Acceleration and Transformation Plan (PAT). Gabon has also allocated 75 million $ for the construction of new road sections in Greater Libreville and in cities across the country. These projects will be completed by August 2023. Indeed, only 20% of the road network, estimated at nearly 10,000 km, is in good condition, meaning only 2,000 km of roads are passable in Gabon. This network should be increased to around 5,000 kilometers of roads to help improve the logistical response of economic operators.<\/p>\n

To achieve this, Gabon has created the National Autonomous Road Maintenance Fund (Faner), whose mission is to establish a reliable and sustainable financing mechanism, guaranteeing immediate availability of resources and prompt and regular payment to companies engaged in road maintenance. It will administer resources and execute expenditures related to the maintenance of the national road network. Another priority is the mammoth Transgabonaise road project, planned to cross six of Gabon's nine provinces over 828 kilometers, and is expected to be completed in 2023. Currently, several road construction and rehabilitation projects have been initiated.<\/p>\n

These will strengthen this road network. The dynamics of the construction and public works sector are undeniable in terms of job creation, economic growth and transformation of a country, the Gabonese government thus intends to pursue its infrastructure development program, particularly road infrastructure, including the development of the Oyem-Mongomo, Makokou-M\u00e9kambo-Ekata roads as well as the construction of tolls and weighing stations on the various national roads. The other major project is the eastern ring road which should connect the municipalities of Ntoum and Akanda by bypassing Libreville.<\/p>\n
