At the African Union-European Union summit in February 2022, Head of State Ali Bongo Ondimba announced that Gabon will transition to renewable energy in the electricity sector starting in 2035.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2022, the Gabonese government signed a framework agreement with Solen, a company specializing in the construction of solar power plants in Africa. It covers the construction of a 120 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in Ayem\u00e9 Plaine, 30 km from Libreville. The project will be carried out in two phases of 60 MW each. The aim is to provide the population with competitive energy and specifically help resolve the problem of recurring power outages in our capital. This infrastructure is part of the Transformation Acceleration Plan and will complement the energy supply on the Estuary Interconnected Network (RIC). Once operational, these plants will reduce annual national diesel consumption by one million liters (2,600 tons of CO2).
