Gabon has proven natural gas reserves of approximately 28.3 billion cubic meters, primarily in the form of associated gas. Currently making limited use of this gas, Gabon is seeking ways to further exploit this resource.
35 billion cubic feet of gas represents roughly 200 megawatts of electricity in energy terms. In Port-Gentil, 100% of the electricity that powers the city is produced from gas from oil fields, which was previously intended for flaring. In Libreville, the goal is to achieve 60% of the electricity needed from flared gas by 2023.
